I can still remember my excitement over the Sledge Hammer! TV show when it premiered in the fall of 1986.  The police comedy that ran for two seasons told the story of an on-the-edge cop (David Rasche) whose no-nonsense approach to dealing with criminals was so over-the-top it was comical.  For example, in the pilot episode a sniper is on the roof of a building.  In order to deal with the sniper, the character uses a bazooka to blow up the whole building, stating afterward, “I think I got ‘em” to fellow police officers.  Yes, it was a bit ridiculous, but having been weaned on action movies and TV shows like Hunter, I couldn’t help but see the humor in the absurdity.  This Sledge Hammer shirt celebrates the detective who sleeps, showers and even talks to his gun, a .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson Model 29 Revolver.  The tee features one of the most popular Sledge Hammer quotes, “Trust me.  I know what I’m doing.”  Too bad it was usually not true.
