A spork is an eating utensil that is a combination of a fork and a spoon.  At the end of a standard handle is a round end like a spoon with a few carved out tines like a fork on the tip.  The design makes it easy for users to scoop or stab their food as needed.  Sporks were first created in the late 1800s, but we are unable to attribute the invention to a specific person or country.  We do know that in the United States the first spork patent was granted in February of 1874 to Samuel Francis.  They are commonly used in cafeterias, prepackaged meals and prisons.
